How to manage your videos and make them interactive
Read this guide to learn how to edit your video details (metadata, thumbnail) link them to products and push them to widgets.
The Video Modal is the central place where you manage everything related to a video in Videowise.
From this modal, you can edit video details, link products, control playback behavior, manage embeds, and prepare videos for publishing across your store and campaigns.
This guide covers all sections of the updated Video Modal, including the new Embed Settings.
How to Open the Video Modal
- Go to Library
- Click on any video
- The Video Modal opens automatically
All actions will be accessible from the left-hand sidebar.
Info Section
The Info section contains all core video information.
Details
Use this section to define the main metadata of the video.
You can:
- Edit the video title
- Add or update a description, or use Videowise’s AI description generator.
Clear titles and descriptions help with organization and reuse, as well as with automated SEO indexing and ranking.
Tags
Tags help you organize and filter your video library.
Use tags to:
- Group videos by campaign or product
- Quickly find content
- Reuse videos across widgets
Multiple tags can be added to the same video.
Usage Rights
This section helps track how a video can be used.
You can:
- Mark ownership or licensing status
- Store permissions for UGC or creator content
- Add internal compliance notes

Captions
Captions improve accessibility and engagement.
You can:
- Generate Closed Captions: when you click on the "generate CC" button, the system will analyze the audio track of the video and transcribe the spoken words into text, which will then be displayed as subtitles on the video screen.
- Upload a VTT file from your computer = Regarding the file, we strictly adhere to a standardized format, namely VTT file format (WebVTT), for subtitle creation. If you don't already have a .vtt file ready to go, you'll need to create a .vtt file yourself or hire a video transcription service to create the file.
Captions are recommended for autoplay and mobile experiences.
File Info
This section displays technical details about the video file.
You can view:
- Location if any (Instagram, TikTok, Drive, Dropbox, Meta Ads
- Uploaded by (if coming from social accounts)
- Uploaded time
- Original file size
- Videowise optimized file size
This information is read-only.
Comments Section
The Comments section is for internal collaboration only.
You can:
- Leave notes, comments and annotations on videos for teammates
- Discuss edits or approvals
- Coordinate content updates
Comments are not visible to shoppers.
Shoppable Products Section
This is where videos become interactive.
You can:
- Link one or more products to the video by clicking on “Add products” and choosing from the dropdown list,
- or use Videowise’s AI Product Detector to automatically detect products from your store appearing in your video.
Linked products allow viewers to shop without leaving the video experience on your store’s video widgets.
Chapters Section
Chapters divide a video into navigable segments.
Video chapters are only available for videos longer than 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
Add chapters manually
Steps:
- First, make sure that the video chapters are enabled. To do so, simply click on the toggle to turn it on.
- Click on Add Chapter to start creating a timeline for your video. Input the timing where the first chapters start, and add a chapter title.
- Repeat this step until you have fully populated all your chapters.
- Once happy with the chapters, just hit save for the chapters to start displaying live on your store.
Generate chapters automatically
Our AI-powered feature will let you populate video chapters for your long-form video content in one click and a couple of seconds. This is great, especially if you are looking to add video chapters to a large number of videos.
All you need to do is click on the "Generate chapters with AI" button and wait a couple of seconds for the AI to populate your chapters automatically.
You have full control over the generated results, and you can change anything that the AI has automatically populated.
Use chapters to:
- Improve navigation
- Highlight multiple products or moments
- Increase engagement on longer videos
Each chapter includes:
- A title
- A timestamp
Embed Settings Section
The Embed Settings section controls how the video behaves when embedded or displayed in widgets.
Thumbnail
Controls which thumbnail is shown before playback.
You can:
- Use a custom thumbnail from your local file (and optimize the image)
- Select a moment of your video to appear as a thumbnail
For the best results, we advise you to stick to the following sizes when you upload your image:
Landscape videos: 800x450px
Portrait videos: 450x800px
Supported formats: JPG or PNG
We recommend that you optimize your images for faster page load.
Autoplay
Defines whether the video starts playing automatically.
You can:
- Set the timing of the video where autoplay starts
- Set the timing for the autoplay duration
Autoplay is commonly used for on-site widgets and social-style layouts.
Video Quality Settings
Controls how video quality is handled during playback.
You can:
- Set up the video size to be used (original or other formats)
- Choose between medium or high-quality
- Choose to use audio or not
This helps improve page speed and user experience.
Render Format
Defines how the video is rendered on desktop and mobile.
On desktop you can choose between:
- Fit to screen
- Full screen
On mobile, you can choose between:
- Fit to screen
- Full screen
Testimonial
Marks the video as a testimonial, to display on our mini-testimonial widgets.
This setting is useful for reviews, UGC and social proof content types of videos.
Steps:
- Add the testimonial text
- Add a reviewer name
- Select a review type between incentivized review or verified purchase.
- Set a star rating between 1 and 5
Testimonial videos can be styled or used differently depending on placement.
Call to Action Button
Controls the CTA displayed with the video.
You can:
- Enable or disable a CTA to be displayed at the bottom of your video
- Add a heading text
- Add a button text and the URL to lead the button to.
The CTA styling is controlled by Global Styles, which you can customize in the settings section of Videowise.
CTAs help drive clicks and conversions directly from the video.
The simultaneous pairing of a tagged product and a call-to-action button in the same video is not allowed.
Video Embed
This section provides embed options.
You can:
- Copy video embed Iframe
- Set up global styles for your shoppable video player when sharing or embedding your shoppable videos
Widgets Used
Shows where the video is currently used.
You can:
- See which widgets include this video
- Understand where changes will apply
This helps prevent accidental edits to live placements.
Video Actions
The Video Actions menu is available from the top-right corner of the Video Modal.
It allows you to quickly manage the video file and its usage.
Copy Video Link
You can copy different types of video links depending on your use case:
- Original
Copies a link to the original uploaded video file.
- Optimized
Copies a link to the optimized version used for fast playback and performance.
- Player
Copies a link to the Videowise video player, to share a direct shoppable video.
These links are useful for sharing, testing, or external use.
Download Original Video
Downloads the original video file exactly as it was uploaded.
This is useful for:
- Backups
- Reuse outside Videowise
- Sharing with partners or creators
Replace Video
Replaces the existing video file while keeping all settings.
When you replace a video:
- Linked products remain intact
- Chapters stay in place
- Embed settings are preserved
- Widgets using the video are not broken
This is ideal for updating content without redoing setup.
Delete Video
Deletes the video from your Videowise library.
- The video is removed from all widgets
- Product links and settings are lost
- This action cannot be undone
Use this only when the video is no longer needed.
Move to Shopify
Moves the video to your Shopify store.
This allows you to:
- Store the video directly in Shopify
- Reuse the asset in Shopify-native contexts
